Why isn't face recognition available in my area?
Where Rico doesn't group faces, how we decide, and what still works
Face recognition isn't offered to members whose connection is in Illinois or Texas. Everything else in Memrico works there just as it does everywhere else.
Why: the rules for face recognition in those states call for consent from each person who appears in a photo, and someone adding a family photo can't give that on everyone else's behalf. Rather than ask you to promise something you can't, we leave face recognition off there.
How we decide: by the approximate location of your internet connection, never by anything you type. There's no state field in Memrico, and no setting to change.
What you still get:
- Photos, albums, meetups, sharing, and everything else Rico does, all as usual.
- The People tab still shows the people other members have grouped from their own photos. A short line there explains that photos you add aren't grouped.
- Profile › Privacy shows "Not available in your area" for each space instead of a switch.
Think the location is wrong? If you're not in Illinois or Texas and you're seeing this, email support@memrico.com. A person will look into it and get back to you.
